Public history

From 2 to 5 July 2018, I had the pleasure to participate in the Public History Summer School in Wroclaw (Poland). Not only was it an enriching experience for me, but it also pushed me to think more about the role of public history, its challenges and its opportunities.

After one exciting year of existence, the C²DH publishes its first annual report - in a fully digital format.

More and more cultural institutions create virtual tours that allow visitors to explore the collections at home instead of actually visiting the institutions. In this blog post, I would like to provide some reflections on virtual tours, their usefulness and their limits.

In the Hands-On History seminar on the 24th of May by Dr. Ludwig M. Vogl-Bienek and Karin Bienek from the University of Trier we were introduced to the history of the magic lantern. After a brief overview during the lecture, we got to experience a live performance of the magic lantern in our Digital History lab. We were also encouraged to experiment with some smaller but original magic lanterns.

Sport und Integration im Westdeutschland der langen 1960er Jahre.

Memorecord is a digital public history project. This crowdsourcing experiment combines community participation and academic research to offer a new perspective on the history of migration in Luxembourg. The project makes use of new communication technologies to approach history in a collaborative way.

Can digital public history help us to reach a historiography that is closer to life?

Reparieren und Instandhalten sind ökonomisch wie kulturell zentrale Praktiken im »Leben« technischer Dinge und Infrastrukturen. Der Band rückt diese bislang wenig untersuchten Tätigkeiten in den Vordergrund und fragt nach den Wissensformen der unterschiedlichen Kulturen des Reparierens.

The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) is organising a two day workshop (7-8 December 2018) on "Histories of Technology’s Persistence: Repair, Reuse and Disposal".

Organisé par le C²DH et Neimënster, un Forum Z consacré à «Mai 68 – Entre mythe et fait social total», qui a eu lieu le 9 mai 2018 à l’Abbaye de Neumünster, a thématisé la manière dont le Luxembourg a participé à ces processus souvent qualifiés de «révolutionnaires», mais aussi les effets que ce mouvement a laissés dans la société du Grand-Duché.

Dans cette conférence, Denis Scuto retrace les parcours de Hugo Fenichel, Max Gold, Moses Häusler et Willy Kissinger.
