Regional history

Radio – like broadcasting in general – has always been quintessentially shaped by specific regions or nation states. Most radio services and channels, in fact, not only explicitly refer to a geolocation through their names, but also their remit is more often than not linked to a particular country, a region or a city. Whereas Hollywood cinema and other forms of media could be characterised by their global aspiration and appeal, radio seems rather limited in its impact beyond borders. Wherever we are from, little do we know about other countries’ or regions’ radio cultures.

The virtual exhibition developed by the C²DH retraces key aspects of the history and memory of the First World War in Luxembourg.

L'exposition «Être d’ailleurs en temps de guerre (14-18). Étrangers à Dudelange / Dudelangeois à l’étranger» est une réalisation conjointe du Centre de Documentation sur les Migrations Humaines (CDMH) et du Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH). Elle est ouverte au public du 29 mars au 9 décembre 2018 dans les locaux du CDMH à Gare-Usines, Dudelange et accompagnée par un programme d'événements et de conférences.

En menant campagne conjointe aux premières élections européennes au suffrage universel de 1979, Pierre Werner (Luxembourg) et Charles-Ferdinand Nothomb (Belgique) décident d’unir leurs efforts pour favoriser les synergies entre les deux Luxembourg. En 1987 est né le « Cercle européen ‘’Perspectives et réalités frontalières’’», devenu en 2002 le « Cercle Européen Pierre Werner ». Son 30e anniversaire a été célébrée le 22 mars 2018, lors d’une manifestation organisée à Luxembourg par le Cercle, le Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) et leurs partenaires, avec le Ministre des Finances, Pierre Gramegna, comme orateur invité.

Résultat d’un partenariat entre le Centre de Documentation sur les Migrations Humaines (CDMH) et le Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH), cette exposition se propose de scruter la dimension migratoire de Dudelange au cours de la Première Guerre mondiale en s’intéressant aux trajectoires de celles ou ceux qui quittent la cité tout comme de celles ou ceux qui y arrivent ou restent.

The Jewish Museum in Prague currently shows an exhibition that presents the situation of the Jewish community during the “normalisation” period. The majority of the documents and photographs are being exhibited for the very first time and it is interesting to see audiovisual propaganda against the European Zionist movements captured on several newly accessible recordings.
