Johanna joined the C²DH in March 2020 as a Doctoral Researcher doing historical research on transformations in Central and Eastern Europe focusing on borders and borderlands.
She holds a Master’s degree in Education, History and English from the University of Hamburg, where she has been researching the concepts of identity, nationalism and fascism of modern Ukrainian history and politics, and acquired her background in teaching. At RWTH Aachen University, she finished her Bachelor of Arts in History and English, focusing on the perception of the German resistance group Red Orchestra in the newspaper Der Spiegel in 1969.
At the C²DH, she is currently doing research on the potential and limits of the Citizen Science project “Talking Borders. From Local Expertise to Global Exchange” in the context of border studies and the history of transformations in Central and Eastern Europe.
