Johanna joined the C²DH in March 2020 as a Doctoral Researcher in the disciplines of historical transformation research and border studies.
She holds a Master’s degree in Education, History and English from the University of Hamburg, where she has been researching the concepts of identity, nationalism and fascism of modern Ukrainian history and politics, and acquired her background in teaching. At RWTH Aachen University, she finished her Bachelor of Arts in History and English, focusing on the perception of the German resistance group Red Orchestra in the newspaper Der Spiegel in 1969.
At the C²DH, she is currently doing digital and historical transformation research on mental maps in the Western Ukrainian border region. Since March 2022, she is a Europaeum Scholar and participates in a two-year training programme in European policy and leadership coordinated by the University of Oxford.
