Knowledge Graphs and Pluralism on Wikidata
Nathalie Casemajor presents her paper on the social, technical and political stakes of knowledge pluralism on Wikidata, and its consequences for the broader Web data ecology.

Widely used by Google and Facebook, Wikidata is a database providing open and linked data from Wikipedia and its related projects on the Wikimedia platform. This data is aggregated within knowledge graphs and used for big data analysis and artificial intelligence (Ringler and Paulheim, 2017; Suchanek and Weikum, 2014). Based on two action research projects with ethnolinguistic groups on Wikipedia (the Atikamekw First Nation and the Franco-Ontarian community, Canada), this paper addresses the social, technical and political stakes of knowledge pluralism on Wikidata, and its consequences for the broader Web data ecology.

The presentation will be followed by a discussion moderated by Valérie Schafer (C²DH).

Nathalie Casemajor is an associate professor at the Centre Urbanisation Culture Société, Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS), Montréal, Québec.
