Integrating the digital into the academic curriculum of history - How to engage your audience

After launching the teaching platform on Digital Source Criticism Ranke.2 in autumn 2018, I assumed its appearance and form - the short colorful animations and easy to ‘digest’ chunks of information - would easily grasp the attention of lecturers and motivate them to use it in their courses. A recent meeting with colleagues made me realize that personal contact and hands on experience with the material are key to make my target audience realize that the resource offers something they may need.

A Hands-On exploration through Luxembourg’s virtual and real landscapes of digital developments in Education, Research and Culture

Who’s afraid of the Digital? This was the leading question of C²DH’s first Forum Z in 2019, organised by the Digital History Unit of the centre. Museum curators, schoolteachers, researchers and professional educators presented their projects in the House of Startups in Luxembourg City in the form of hands-on workstations followed by an round table discussing the merits of new digital projects with the audience in a casual atmosphere.

Le C²DH a participé à la 21e édition des Rendez-vous de l'Histoire qui s’est déroulée à Blois du 10 au 14 octobre 2018. Point de rencontre de nombreux historiens, chercheurs et de passionnés d'histoire, l’édition de cette année, avec plus de 600 tables rondes, ateliers, conférences, débats et projections de films, portait sur le thème de «la puissance des images».

Digitising the analogue

Some time ago it suddenly hit us that it has been a while since we read an academic book or article in a physical format. This for the simple reason that we can retrace digital information much quicker — i.e. annotating a PDF, extracting highlighted text automatically with ZotFile or quickly looking up a specific word in a pdf document. A second realisation was that as PhD students in the field of digital history and hermeneutics these "small" digital aspects of a scholars life are almost never highlighted.

Memorecord – a memory harvest

Memorecord is a digital public history project. This crowdsourcing experiment combines community participation and academic research to offer a new perspective on the history of migration in Luxembourg. The project makes use of new communication technologies to approach history in a collaborative way.
