The role of BENELUX in the European Security Strategy (1950-1960)
This project examines the impact that the US policy of containment on the European Integration (EI) movement, specifically in the BENELUX, and the role that US military spending (in support containment) had on EI from 1948 to 1960. More specifically, this project sheds light on the question of the impact that the massive early Cold War American military / financial intervention in Western Europe had on the early European Integration movement, the reactions of the BENELUX nations (individually and collectively in the Western European Union) to those developments, what role did the BENELUX play in US containment strategy, and how did the BENELUX contribute to a European security strategy.
