We had the honour of welcoming the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and His Royal Highness The Grand Duke of Luxembourg.

As part of a state visit to Luxembourg, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, was welcomed by the director of the C²DH, Andreas Fickers, at the Schuman house in Luxembourg-Clausen on 11 July 2023. The childhood house of Robert Schuman – celebrated as a founding father of the European Coal and Steel– is recognized as a highly symbolic place of memory.

It is the Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) at the University of Luxembourg, which currently has the task of preserving the Schuman House as a place of memory and bringing its historical significance to life.

Following a guided tour of the house, various presentations by C²DH’s researchers highlighted the value of this significant heritage both for Luxembourg and for Europe. The documentary ‘Robert Schuman- From Clausen to Europe’, created entirely with numerous carefully selected archives, retraced the journey of the child of Clausen to whom we owe the famous declaration of May 9, 1950.
