International Oral History Workshop

This July 2019 workshop at C²DH was focused on digital oral history in the United States, its evolution over the past 20 years, and the prominent tools and methods currently available in the field. We used a combination of demonstrations, hands-on exercises, contributions from participants, and open discussion to facilitate an intercontinental dialogue, all aimed at bringing new possibilities for oral history to Luxembourgish researchers.

Professor Sean Takats, leading researcher in digital history software and infrastructure, joins the C²DH

Professor Dr Sean Takats, an internationally renowned expert on digital history, will start his research work in Luxembourg in October 2019, backed by an FNR PEARL Chair from the Luxembourg National Research Fund. The PEARL programme, funded by the FNR, provides competitive funding to attract top researchers in strategic research areas for Luxembourg.

How can computer-assisted methods help us to solve problems that are fundamental to historical research? In a series of two blog posts we discuss a research pilot that aims to identify anti-modernist discourses on Europe in historical Swiss newspapers from the period 1939-1945.

The multiple facets of visualising history

The Forum Z on Visualising History in the 1535 Creative Hub in Differdange opened up different perspectives to the challenges of visualising history in accessible, entertaining and interesting ways. With the musical support of C²DHs Douglas Lambert and a live translation into English and German the Forum Z covered a lot of ground, from history paintings to different forms of virtual reconstructions up to building a time machine.
