Digital History: a balance about the Brazilian Perspective

Research seminar with Dilton Maynard.

 

What is possible to say about Digital History in Brazil? In this presentation, the main objective is to consider and evaluate how the different initiatives, from Universities to fundamental schools, the work with electronic resources to research, to teach or study history have been carried out by Brazilian professors, teachers, and researchers.

 

Dilton Cândido Santos Maynard is Associate Professor in the Department of History at the Federal University of Sergipe where his part of the National Professional Master Program “PROFHISTÓRIA” in History Teaching, section Sergipe. He is currently holding the position of Dean of Faculty Studies (2017-2020). Maynard specialised in the history of Brazilian Republic, with a dissertation on radio broadcasting during the Dictatorship period known as Estado Novo. In the early 2000’s, Maynard started his research on the history of the internet, later on developing pioneering studies on Digital History in Brazil. Alongside his academic activities, Maynard worked as an advisor and national coordinator of the Brazilian Textbooks Evaluation Program, from 2008 to 2017, in the last five years being responsible by the first evaluations of Digital Educational Objects – the first digital didactics material in Brazil. Maynard’s Estudos sobre a História e a Internet (Luminária Academia, 2011) became an important reference in Brazil early years of research on Digital History. Maynard’s website “Memórias Segunda Guerra” on WWII won the Funarte Award for Cultural Production for the Internet in the year of 2011. Since 2012, Maynard is a guest Professor at the Post Graduate Program for Comparative History in the Federal University of History, in the research axe Power and Institutions.
