Sophie is public historian and doctoral researcher at the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School for the Humanities at the University of Cologne, Germany. From April to June 2022, she is a visiting research fellow at the C²DH. She started her PhD as a Marie-Curie fellow in the a.r.t.e.s. EUmanities global track, funded by Marie-Skłodowska-Curie-Actions under the European Union's Horizon 2020. In her research she focuses on changing gender discourses in museums of industry and technology. Inspired by the three fields of Science and Technology Studies Gender in Science - Science of Gender - Gender of Science, the aim is to work out the temporal-spatial situatedness of museum knowledge production in relation to gender with case studies from Hamburg, Berlin, Chemnitz, and Vienna.
Sophie studied History, Peace and Conflict Studies and Biology and obtained her Master‘s Degree in Public History at Free University Berlin in 2018. During her studies, gained academic and practical experiences at the Center for Contemporary Historical Research (ZZF) Potsdam and the Wende Museum of the Cold War Los Angeles, among others. For her Master’s thesis about the representation of the West-German and Canadian women’s movements, she conducted field research at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights Winnipeg (CMHR), the Museum of Vancouver (MOV), and the German Historical Museum (DHM) Berlin.
As part of her PhD, she was a visiting research fellow at the Centre for Public History at Carleton University Ottawa, Canada in 2020 and Scholar-in-Residence at the Technisches Museum Wien, Vienna, Austria in 2021.
Sophie is co-founder and speaker for students and young professionals (SYP) in the working group on applied history / public history (AGAG) of the German Historical Association (VHD) and a member of the International Federation for Public History (IFPH).
