This talk centers around the changing practice of doing history in the digital age, seen within the broader historical context of developments in the so-called digital humanities. It argues that there is too much emphasis on tools and data while too little attention is being paid to how the practice of doing history is changing as a result of the digital turn.

Still, most democracies remain resilient despite challenges such as the financial crises and the rampant spread of fake news on social media. Yet, we show that government manipulation of the media, weakening of civil society, the rule of law and even elections is increasing.

Penser l’histoire des médias … le chemin historiographique et académique qu’elle a parcouru, mais aussi son actualité et ses perspectives, telles sont les ambitions relevées par la cinquantaine de contributions de ce livre.

Les historiens prennent progressivement la mesure de l’opportunité que représentent les milliards de pages Web archivées, mais aussi des difficultés et enjeux épistémologiques posés par ces nouvelles sources à la discipline. Parmi les points de tension relevés, ressort en particulier l’imbrication des temporalités à l’œuvre dans l’archivage et les archives du Web. Ce sont ces multiples temporalités de l’archive et de l’archivage que ce chapitre se propose d’étudier.

À l’image de son objet, l’histoire sur le numérique est un champ de recherche jeune, issu d’une historiographie puisant à de nombreuses sources. Devenue aujourd’hui une composante de l’histoire des médias, après avoir été une composante de l’histoire des techniques et de l’innovation, elle dispose de multiples facettes : de l’histoire de l’informatique à celle des cultures numériques, elle est un champ en construction et en expansion, très ouvert à d’autres disciplines.

The “Macedonia” name issue has been a constant point of contention between Greece and the newly re-named Republic of North Macedonia, since the breakup of Yugoslavia. With the origins of the dispute stretching back to the Second World War, the “Prespa Agreement,” signed between the two Balkan neighbors in June 2018 (coming into force in February 2019) is hoped to be a new beginning in interstate relations in the Balkans.

As long as there have been computers, there have been scholars pulling at historians, challenging them to use these computers for historical research. Yet what role computers can have in historical research is a matter of continuous debate. Under the signifier of “digital history”, historians have experimented with tools, concepts, and methods from other disciplines, mostly computer science and computational linguistics, to benefit the historical discipline.

Cette intervention reviendra sur les évolutions historiographiques récentes dans le champ de l'étude des réseaux et cultures numériques, qu'elles concernent les sources, les acteurs étudiés ou encore les espaces concernés par ces recherches.

Cette présentation revient sur les travaux menées autour de l'histoire du Web des années 1990 et présente les enjeux de lecture proche et distante des archives du Web au sein de cette recherche.
