Contemporary history of Luxembourg

Heute noch müssen wir fort (Teil 3: 10. Mai 1940: Schicksalstag für Luxemburg)

In the town of Esch-sur-Alzette in southern Luxembourg, people prepare for Pentecost in May 1940; the town dresses up, the children look forward to the traditional fair. But this will not take place. For on 10 May 1940, the war comes to the Grand Duchy. Germany invades neutral Luxembourg. Even today, 10 May is considered a "day of fate" - because the lives of the entire population changed in one fell swoop. In the third part of the documentary "Heute noch wir fort" (After documentaries on Saarland and Lorraine), contemporary witnesses from Luxembourg and tell their memories of the fateful day of 10 May 1940. Historical contextualisation is made by Denis Scuto.
