Pioneering Women in Luxembourg’s International Relations: New Oral History Insights

Pioneering Women in Luxembourg’s International Relations: New Oral History Insights

The presence and influence of women in international relations and diplomacy is a subject that has received little attention in contemporary historiography. In this context, and given the absence of systematic archival sources, oral history not only represents a new and original source; it is also the most appropriate way of elucidating the role of female figures in European and international relations in Luxembourg after the Second World War.

Russian-Speaking Families and Public Preschools in Luxembourg: Cultural Encounters, Challenges, and Possibilities

Russian-Speaking Families and Public Preschools in Luxembourg: Cultural Encounters, Challenges, and Possibilities

In the twenty-first century, multicultural encounters have become an experience that is familiar even to the youngest. In superdiverse trilingual Luxembourg, over 50% of the population are foreigners, and many of them do not speak the titular language of the country. Multicultural classrooms are studied very closely, but Russian-speaking students, a new but exponentially growing addition to the cultural mix, have not been studied yet in their journey of school integration.

Exploring the European integration process: Oral History collections on CVCE.eu

The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH), together with the European University Institute (Florence, Italy) and the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory (Frankfurt am Main, Germany), organises this Summer School to explore methods of oral history and to test digital tools, while it pays attention to how digital sources may shape narratives in contemporary European history. The ‘Oral history of European integration’ collection presents audio and video accounts from key players and observers of the European integration process.

Inna Ganschow: Prezedenzfall a Russland bleift net ouni Konsequenzen

Dat, wat de Weekend a Russland geschitt ass, wär e Prezedenzfall, dee sécher net ouni Konsequenze bleiwe géif - seet d'Inna Ganschow, Historikerin op der Uni Lëtzebuerg. Fir si war virun allem frappant ze gesinn, wéi staark sech bei där Geleeënheet gewisen hätt, datt déi russesch Populatioun es genuch huet mam Krich.

Pierre Werner (1913-2002) – A life dedicated to Luxembourg and Europe

As a long-standing senior civil servant, minister and Prime Minister from the end of the Second World War until the mid-1980s, Pierre Werner gave his country, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, a voice that would be heard beyond its borders. He was closely involved in integration and policy-making efforts at the national, regional and European levels. He was an excellent listener and known for his skills of understanding and reconciling apparently incompatible positions. He was committed to defending the vital interests of Luxembourg and Europe over the long term.

Historical Challenges and Crisis in building an Integrated Europe: Soft Power Lessons from Luxembourg

Historical Challenges and Crisis in building an Integrated Europe: Soft Power Lessons from Luxembourg

The history of European construction after the Second World War is characterized by a crisis-led policy-making process in which the small states and their leadership have played from the outset a critical role. This is the case for the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg – one of the smallest countries of our continent but the 1st in terms of wealth (as measured by GDP/capita) – which adopted, in its strategical approach to multilateralism and regional integration, an international outlook both for security and economic reasons, and pioneered the emergence of the European project.
