Les phénomènes viraux et en particulier les gifs et les mèmes ont donné lieu à des études (par H. Jenkins, L. Shifman, R. Milner, D. Kaplan et N. Nova, J. Eppink, A. Wagener et bien d’autres) qui éclairent les phénomènes de circulation, participation, partage (cf. également les recherches de N. John) et transformation au sein des cultures numériques. Les phénomènes viraux sont bien sûr présents dès les débuts du Web et certains voient dans les émoticones ou la loi de Godwin leurs premières occurrences (J. McGrath).

In this paper I will discuss key parameters of the politics of digitisation within a broader historical and global context with the aim to encourage further debate on its implications for historical research. In the first part, I will outline the global dimensions of the politics of digital cultural heritage with a particular focus on developments within and between Europe and Africa, framed within the broader context of the politics of heritage and its preservation and recent debates about ‘postcolonial digital humanities’.

What does it mean to be a digital scholar? The answers to this seemingly simple question are probably as diverse as the interdisciplinary field of digital humanities itself. To learn more about the ins and outs of the emerging research area, we invited Prof. Valérie Schafer from the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) for an interview.

The Werner Committee's work was characterised by political and doctrinal differences between “economists” (the countries with weak currencies – France, Belgium and, to a certain extent, Italy) and “monetarists” (the countries with strong currencies – Germany and the Netherlands)– namely, those who saw monetary integration as a means of economic integration and those for whom it was the ultimate goal.

"Ich habe in den letzten Tagen keine Umfragen durchführen können. Es ist auch nicht das Thema meiner aktuellen Forschung (...) Aber was mein persönlicher Eindruck ist: Ich habe in der Tat bislang keinen Menschen getroffen oder gehört, der gesagt hätte, ja das ist richtig. Hundreds of thousands have protested against the war in Ukraine on the streets of Europe, including many Russians. How does the Russian community in Luxembourg feel about the Russian invasion of Ukraine? It turns out this is not so easy to figure out, if only because the war seens to have fractured the Russian-speaking community in the country.

Introduction to a historical and literary project, where C2DH historian Denis Scuto invites writers, historians, sociologists, anthropologists, etc. to be inspired by Bruce Springsteen's songs to write texts about the industrial iron ore basin in the South of Luxembourg and French Lorraine called “Minett”, about yesterday, today or tomorrow, in French, German, Luxembourgish or English.

Since its establishment in 1885, the Luxembourg telephone network was characterised by bottlenecks in network expansion, which were in the course of the 20th century to be remedied by new cables (expansion) and new distribution technology (innovation). However, the envisioned expansion was repeatedly slowed down by a lack of trained technical staff and resources. For example, requests for new connections had repeatedly to be rejected and already planned expansion measures had to be postponed.

Le 20 juin 1967, l’homme d’État luxembourgeois, Joseph Bech reçoit le prix Robert Schuman de l’université de Bonn pour honorer son engagement européen. Dans son discours de remerciement, il rappelle les acquis du projet européen, mais précise que tout reste à faire. La cérémonie a été suivie d'une rencontre avec des étudiants.

La Communauté européenne du Charbon et de l'Acier (CECA) célèbre son vingtième anniversaire. Retour sur cette organisation internationale née au Luxembourg avec Jean Monnet, premier président de la CECA, et Gaston Thorn, ministre luxembourgeois des Affaires étrangères.
