Zoé is a PhD Candidate working on the history of deindustrialisation in Luxembourg.
Her research examines deindustrialisation in Luxembourg between 1970 and 1990, focusing on the impact on the southern Luxembourg cities that were dependent on the steel industry. She compares the cities of Dudelange, Esch-sur-Alzette and Pétange and shows their different experiences with industrial decline and unemployment. The study examines the effects of deindustrialisation, such as factory closures and demographic changes, and at the same time analyses how local actors such as politicians, employees, residents and trade unions perceived and reacted to these changes in Luxembourg and the Greater Region.
The research is part of a larger project, "Confronting Decline" (CONDE), coordinated by the Institut für Zeitgeschichte (IfZ) in Munich. This project explores the challenges of deindustrialisation in Western societies since the 1970s. She also participates in the Europaeum Scholars Programme, a two-year European policy and leadership training programme coordinated by the University of Oxford.
Zoé holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in history from the Ludwigs-Maximilians-Universität in Munich (LMU). Her research interests lie in cultural history, spatial history, and the history of technology.
Main supervisor is Ass.-Prof. Dr. Stefan Krebs (C²DH).
