Emily Bowen is a History Undergraduate from the University of York, UK, and a recipient of the Laidlaw Undergraduate Research and Leadership Scholarship. During the first year of this scholarship, in her project titled 'Modernising the Past: Impacts of digitisation on the accessibility of historical materials for the local community of York', Emily researched the impact of digitising the oral histories and photographs of the National Railway Museum and the University of York, assessing how the local community of York was affected. Now in her second year of the scholarship, Emily will be continuing her research with C²DH during the summer of 2023, assessing the impact of digitisation on local communities and getting involved in the process itself.

Emily's interests lie in Public History, and she plans to write her undergraduate dissertation on public responses to the British Museum's repatriation debate since 2020, which she will begin in September 2023.
