Minett Stories: Remembering the industrial past online
In this SloMemoTalk Stefan Krebs will share his experience of organising the online exhibition Minett Stories, in conversation with Elisabeth Boesen.

The exhibition Minett Stories tells the history of the industrial region in the south of Luxembourg. Instead of focusing on the mining and smelting technologies, large iron works and steel barons, the project team decided to present the everyday history of an industrial region, concentrating on the time span from the industrialization of the region in around 1870 to the steel crisis of the 1970s. The online exhibition embraced the concept of transmedia storytelling for the production of narratives and media: the team worked in collaboration with several artists, stage actors and designers to produce graphic novels, interactive videos and maps, radio plays and video essays. The presentation will cover several examples to highlight this approach, before reflecting on the project as part of the ongoing process of the heritagization of the Minett, and discussing selected exhibition chapters that focus on the memories of the region’s industrial past.

Stefan Krebs is an Assistant Professor for Contemporary History at the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH). He studied history, political science and philosophy at the universities of Aachen and Aix-en-Provence. His current research interests include the industrial history of Luxembourg and the history of repair and maintenance. From 2019 to 2024 he directed the project “Remixing Industrial Pasts” in connection with Esch2022 European Capital of Culture. The project resulted in a multimedia exhibition on the university campus and the online exhibition “Minett Stories”. The project team received the 2021 FNR PSP Award, a 2022 Luxembourg Design Silver Award and the 2023 Dibner Award for Excellence in Museum Exhibits from the Society for the History of Technology.
