This presentation reviews and analyses a panoply of actions, initiatives and platforms used in Palestine to re-introduce historical narratives, knowledge, and contemplate alternative emancipated futures, despite conditions of military occupation, ethnic cleansing, and economic precarity. The avenue of this practice were non-governmental arts and museum institutions addressing local, international, and diasporic multigenerational audiences with a diversity of tools ranging from community work, exhibitions, publications, online didactic platforms, and digital activities, thereby politicizing and historicizing cultural and museum work.
Dr Adila Laïdi-Hanieh is a Palestinian art historian and the former Director General of the Palestinian Museum (2018-2023.) She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from George Mason University and has published several books and essays. She taught Modern and Contemporary Arab Thought, and Palestinian Art History at Birzeit University from 2006 to 2008 and ran the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center in Ramallah from 1996 to 2005.
