HISTORIES OF THE INTERNET AND THE WEB

HISTORIES OF THE INTERNET AND THE WEB

Who « invented » the Internet? Who holds the keys to the Internet? What sources, what actors should be given prominence in a history of the Internet and the Web able to fully take into account its origins, trajectories, turns, evolutions, continuities? The emergence of Arpanet in the 1960s, then, ten years later, of the Internet, is the product of a long-term innovation process that is yet to find its closure today, a process marked by the intertwining of socio-technical paths and heterogeneous networks of actors.

Échos du centenaire de la Première Guerre mondiale sur Twitter

Based on the analysis of a large corpus of tweets related to the First World War on the one hand and links contained in these tweets on the other hand, we question the ways activities of Twitter accounts show an appropriation of the Centenary. We hypothesize that the "Morts pour la France" database is currently emerging as a "lieu de mémoire".

From Battlegrounds to Burial Grounds - The Cemetery Landscapes of the German Army, 1939 -1945

From Battlegrounds to Burial Grounds - The Cemetery Landscapes of the German Army, 1939 -1945

War is always related to many different aspects, e.g. religion, technology etc. However, one of the aspects of central importance for the history of warfare is geography. The present volume will analyze this interrelationship from several different perspectives. Geography is not only integral to the planning of tactics and strategies, but plays an important role in the outcome of war and its long-term aftermath. Furthermore, the interplay between war and geography is not purely a modern phenomenon but can be traced back through the ages of history.
