This article examines the influence of patients' families in the Schaerbeek asylum for the insane between 1853 and 1914. Through the examination of the institution's medico-administrative registers during four periods of psychiatric internment (admissions, establishment of diagnoses, social relations of the patients, and discharges), the central role played by the patients' entourage in the asylums is revealed. Between high economic capital and favorable legal provisions, families are indeed able to influence the possibilities and modalities of psychiatric internment.

More than 10,000 Luxembourgish soldiers and recruits and an unknown number of Luxembourgish men and women wore German uniforms during WWII in armed forces and civil organisations, such as the Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS, armed police forces and the Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD). The "WARLUX" project, based at the University of Luxembourg in the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH), intends to collect the biographical data of Luxembourgers who were drafted into the German Army and the Labour Service.

In this presentation, I will “perform” the making of a 16mm home movie based on my media archaeological experiments with an original Ciné-Kodak film camera from 1930. A split screen montage shows the recorded analogue film fragments besides footage that illustrates the process of making the film captured by my documentation equipment, including a digital video camera, GoPro and 360 degree camera.

The international online symposium brought together scholars, museum professionals and heritage practitioners to discuss how participatory history is constructed, developed, and implemented in museums. 'Making History Together: Public Participation in Museums' took place on 15 December 2020 and has brought together participants and case studies from all over the world. Sessions include discussions on co-creation and co-production, community of interpretation, digital public participatory practices, empowerment, and overall impact on making history in museums.

This presentation addresses the question in what ways visual media have contributed to the construction of a specific view on twentieth-century century (family) life by means of an experimental media archaeological approach to early home movie making. Based on hands-on experiments with an original Ciné-Kodak 16mm film camera from 1930, it will be shown how filming one’s family was never truly a neutral practice of capturing everyday life.

Who were the Luxembourgish legionnaires? What were they doing in France? Why did they decide to enrol? How have they been portrayed and remembered? Incorporating the most recent scholarship on the topic and covering a timeline spanning from the early-19th century to the interwar period, with a particular focus on WW1, the book explores the intersecting histories of the French Foreign Legion and of the Luxembourgish emigrations in France.

L’archivage du Web depuis 1996, d’abord par Internet Archive, avant que se multiplient les initiatives institutionnelles, notamment européennes, a créé un vaste patrimoine nativement numérique des luttes sociales. Évolutif dans le temps, dans l’espace et selon les plateformes, il invite à penser la notion d’archive vivante, les relations entre mémoire et histoire, les écritures de l’histoire des luttes sociales, les potentialités mais aussi les risques (méthodologiques, éthiques) qu’il pose.
