Il y a des gens dont, pour le dire en termes crus, la gueule ne me revient pas. Sans que je sache nécessairement pourquoi. Un d’entre eux, avec sa gueule, ne me lâche pas depuis mes vacances en Italie cet été. Je n’arrive pas à m’en débarrasser. Il s’agit de l’homme politique italien d’extrême droite Matteo Salvini, chef de la Lega (Nord) et depuis juin vice-premier ministre et ministre de l’Intérieur.

The goal of the session was to familiarise the participants with the textometric analysis and to encourage reflection on the application of this type of analysis to (oral) history research.

Digital social media have become so pervasive that historians can no longer ignore them, not only as a means of communication but also as a potential source for their research. This training session will be divided into three parts: feedback on previous research projects and experiences, a "hands-on" session in which participants can make their first Twitter data collection and analysis, and finally a critical perspective on digital social media as a source in humanities and social sciences.

La Bibliothèque nationale de France et l’Institut national de l’audiovisuel ont mené d’importantes collectes d’urgence du Web et de Twitter lors des attentats de janvier puis de novembre 2015. La conservation du patrimoine nativement numérique des attentats a été aussi au coeur de la réflexion d’autres acteurs, individuels ou institutionnels, européens ou nord-américains, à la même période et parfois en amont. Ils livrent ici leurs regards sur les motivations, réussites, contraintes, mais aussi limites de ces archivages, confrontés au flux, au temps réel, à des données pléthoriques.

Settlement patterns are one of the main products of prehistorical archaeological research and are used as spatial projections of past societies. In current paper we study how geographical locational data can reveal information about cultural complexity. The formation of the patterns is influenced by multiple factors from human-environment interactions to complex processes within society.

This proposal will discuss the use of digital picture archives and associated tools in historical research from the perspective of digital history with a focus on resources for the history of education. Our starting point will be threefold: • digital picture archives need to be seen as part of a wide range of digital resources that are currently available for historical research; while certain methodological, epistemological and technical questions are specific for digital picture archives, many pertain to digital resources in general;

This contribution invited participants of the Summer school to critically reflect upon centers and peripheries in Internet history, not only from a geographical perspective , but also from a narrative standpoint

“Amateurs of one era are not the amateurs of another, even when a continuous tradition exists to connect them”, is an intriguing statement made by Lisa Gitelman (2014). Overall, Gitelman’s answer would favor a certain level of complexity as to avoid ‘sloppy media history’ even when a continuous tradition exists to connect them (137). Rather, we should explore how amateur filmmakers ‘doing and its do-ability’ can differ as they are situated in broader historical contexts.
