TRANSFORMATION OF JEWISH IDENTITY IN POST-WAR CZECH AND LUXEMBOURG GENERATIONS (1945-1990)

The PhD project has been supervised under the regulations of the Cotutelle agreement between the University of Luxembourg (C²DH) and Charles University (the Faculty of Education). The aim of the thesis is to analyze and compare the development and changes of Jewish identity and Jewishness in post-war Jewish generations in the years 1945–1990 born or living in the Czech lands (Czech, Moravia, Silesia) and Luxembourg. The research focuses only on the territory of the Czech lands (Czech Republic) and Luxembourg; it does not include the current Slovak territory.

At the center of the conversation about young people of the same age in the same city as today's high school students from Esch, were Soviet girls and guys who were taken by the Nazis to work in the steel industry in Luxembourg. Luxembourg schoolchildren participate in the design of the monument to their peers 80 years ago, together with a sculpture from Russia.

If the cyborg remains a human - repaired, augmented or diminished -, the emergence of metaphorical or real figures such as the latter as well as hybrids, robots, drones and AIs, is perhaps the expression of an anthropological major shift.

Keynote lecture: Exploring Jewish History in the Digital Age

This lecture will explore the intersection of Jewish Studies and Digital Humanities in general, and the myriad ways in which new technologies affect the field of Jewish History in particular. Importantly, the digital turn in Jewish Studies needs to be historicised; as is the case for the humanities in general, applications of computing in Jewish Studies go back at least 60 years.
