The Digital Archive and the Politics of Digitisation

The Digital Archive and the Politics of Digitisation

This paper deals with a question that is becoming increasingly important for historians who work with digitised cultural heritage: what are the politics of digitisation and what are its implications for historical research? Is the often-lauded democratising potential of digitisation also offset by risks, inherent in selection processes that might privilege the digitisation of heritage corresponding to existing national master narratives, the availability of funding and/or the priorities set by cultural policies and certain research agendas?

La promesse de Dupong...

La promesse de Dupong...

Despite the promise that foreign Jews who had resided in Luxembourg before the war and had to flee nazi persecution, could come back after the war, Luxembourg authorities restricted the return of the foreign Jews who had survived and made an application to return and settle in the Grand-Duchy. The article is based on the analysis of a database of more than 3.000 foreign Jews who had resided in Luxembourg in the 1930s. More than 400 foreign Jews tried to return after the war.

Taxing intangible assets in Europe

Taxing intangible assets in Europe

The globalisation of the digital economy is indicative of a changing multidimensional paradigm driven by a number of factors: the primacy of intangible assets in value creation; a growing transnational and international dimension in the production and consumption of goods and services; the transition from human labour to artificial intelligence; the increasing dominance of networks of stakeholders over individual players; the emergence of new forms of sharing, creation, collaboration and innovation; and the need to harmonise rules, standards and policies (including in the area of taxation)

Radio-Feature "100 Jahre Ostbelgien": Folge 1 "2x50 Jahre Geschichte Ostbelgiens"

The MAXQDA and ethic commitments

The MAXQDA and ethic commitments

The aim of this blogpost is to review data analysis software. None of the qualitative software (nVivo, Atlas.ti, Maxqda, dedoose.) actually "analyse" the data for you in the way that quantitative software does. They are more applicable in systematically organising, coding, annotating, visualising, etc. rather than data analysis. In essence, the analysis is still the user’s burden, and the software only assists in managing and exploring the data.
