Cross-disciplinary public history projects – especially via the Internet – are at the heart of the C²DH’s activities. All research projects carried out at the centre therefore include a public history component, with the aim of sharing research findings with both the academic community and the interested public.
Moreover, public history is also a specific research field within the C²DH. Projects within this field engage in digital cultural and social history, with a focus on contemporary history and in collaboration with national and international partners. Research activities include the meta-analysis of community orientation in digital history, oral history and citizen science, inclusive practices of heritage-making and reflection, and impacts of multicultural perspectives in digital history.
A high-performance digital research infrastructure is the backbone of both the scientific and outreach activities of C²DH. The C²DH can build on an excellent foundation for conducting complex research projects that combine scholarly research activities with the development of new tools and/or new formats of public dissemination and engagement. In addition, the C²DH Digital History Lab offers a professionally equipped laboratory for large digitisation projects (using the Scan-Robot), 3D digitisation (both mobile and static) as well as 3D visualisation and printing. The Lab serves as a creative space for hands-on experimentation with new tools and technologies both in teaching and research.
The C²DH also launched a new event series Forum Z (Z for “Zeitgeschichte”, contemporary history). Forum Z is a platform for a critical and open discussion of current issues in contemporary Luxembourg and European history. Archives and museum representatives, researchers, and teachers, as well as the interested public are warmly invited to join our invited guests and experts for a discussion of current issues, important research perspectives, and new approaches or sources in contemporary history.
