Geschichte wird anhand von Quellen unterschiedlicher Herkunft erzählt und interpretiert. Die Fragen der Historiker entwickeln sich auch auf Grundlage ihrer verinnerlichten familiären Erzählungen über erlebte Geschichte. Kann diese Perspektive und ihre Konfrontation mit der archivalischen Überlieferung neue Sichtweisen auf die Vergangenheit ermöglichen? Wie können Historiker das Konzept des situativen Opportunismus nutzen, um die Entscheidungen der Zeitgenossen zu verstehen? Ein Denkanstoß.

This paper historicizes “rigour”, discipline” and “systematic” as inventions of a certain rational spirit of Enlightenment that was radicalized during the 19th century. These terms acquired temporary value in a transition during the 19th century when a culture of research was established within a modern episteme. Beginning in the 20th century, this development was perceived as problematic, triggering criticism from philosophy and the arts, and even within the sciences.

The objective of a community detection algorithm is to group similar nodes in a network into communities, while increasing the dissimilarity between them. Several methods have been proposed but many of them are not suitable for large-scale networks because they have high complexity and use global knowledge. The Label Propagation Algorithm (LPA) assigns a unique label to every node and propagates the labels locally, while applying the majority rule to reach a consensus. Nodes which share the same label are then grouped into communities.

Identitätskonflikte polarisieren und radikalisieren die politische Auseinandersetzung. Krieg wird erlebbar. Gleichzeitig verändern Massenmedien wie Zeitungen, Radio oder das Kino die Sicht der Menschen auf die Welt.

Les débats sur la neutralité de l’Internet et sur la surveillance des informations et communications en ligne placent actuellement au cœur des discussions « les intermédiaires » et leur rôle dans le filtrage, ou au contraire la priorisation, de certains contenus circulant au sein du réseau des réseaux. Les intermédiaires ont vu leur rôle mis en débat dès leur naissance dans les années 1990.

This issue of VIEW provides a critical survey of new digital humanities (DH) methods and tools directed toward audiovisual (AV) media. DH as a field is still dominated by a focus on textual studies (studies of word culture) that are largely “deaf and blind” in their capacity to search, discover, and study AV materials. The mandate to improve these capacities is clear and unquestioned, though the pathways are fecund and numerous.

Data visualization is a powerful tool for digital scholarship yet not without its pitfalls. Based on the dissertation “Visualizing Gender Balance” comparing ten computer science conferences, several visualization techniques and tools undergo a critical review. The dataset underlying the visualizations contains data researchers encounter daily: bibliographic information. Analyzing larger sets of authors writing and publishing for conferences in computer science changes our perception of the gender (im)balance in this academic research area.

Elle y décrit ce que tout·e his­to­rien·ne a pu vivre : une rela­tion intime aux sour­ces pri­mai­res – que l’on s’appro­prie phy­si­que­ment et intel­lec­tuel­le­ment –, qui s’ins­crit dans un espace par­ti­cu­lier, la salle de lec­ture. Cette rela­tion intime condi­tionne pour partie l’inter­pré­ta­tion de nos sour­ces et le récit du passé que nous en tirons.
