Die Geschichte des Reparierens wird meist als Niedergangsgeschichte erzählt: Das sich wandelnde Verhältnis zwischen Anschaffungs- und Reparaturkosten von Konsumgütern hätte dazu geführt, dass immer weniger repariert wurde und private Konsumenten stattdessen direkt neue Geräte angeschafft hätten. Als Wendepunkt hin zur sogenannten Wegwerfgesellschaft werden für Westeuropa die 1970er und 1980er Jahre genannt. Am Beispiel Luxemburgs soll der Wan- del des Reparaturfeldes für diesen Zeitraum näher untersucht werden.

The conceptions of Belgium that lie behind the demands of German-speaking Belgians for the expansion of their autonomy have not yet come into the focus of historical and political science research. What future do they associate with the Belgian state when they claim a community-region or a ‘Belgium of four’? This article attempts to approach this question by analysing four regimes of fear that determine East Belgian discourses: Fear of the past, fear of minorities, fear of being overwhelmed and fear of disintegration.

This special issue is the result of our second call for the Internet Histories Early Career Researcher Award. For the second time, in 2021, the journal Internet Histories has invited any interested early career researchers (masters students, doctoral students, and post-doctoral researchers) whose research focuses on the history of the Internet and/or the Web, and histories of digital cultures — or any historical topic within the scope of the Internet Histories journal, to apply for the award and to submit an original article.

History is a representation of the past based on (written) knowledge which has been passed on from one generation to the next, with a preference given to written sources from a Eurocentric tradition. However, written sources about (former) colonial territories are a product of the colonial system in which they were produced. Acknowledging the biases in these archives, therefore, opens the way for acceptance of other forms of knowledge which were previously deemed "not objective"in Eurocentric historical disciplines.

Until the 1970s, mentally ill patients were largely absent from the history of psychiatry. The field was dominated by triumphant narratives from doctors and critical perspectives from anti-psychiatrists. CulturHist has its sights particularly on the community of researchers, who have done little to make the results and suggestions offered by the digital humanities their own. We want to focus the discussion on a cross cutting issue: the link to archives, as the raw material for writing an account of the past. The habit of working digitally of those historians who do not nowadays verbalise their computer practices is now widespread and is bolstered by policies aimed at making many digitised document collections available online.

We have entered the “age of abundance”: a huge number of historical sources – books, documents, pamphlets and media of all sorts – have by now been digitised, and the amount of digital-born material is growing at an even faster pace. This boom is paired with new forms of access: in principle, digital sources that are made available online can be studied from anywhere in the world, and powerful digital tools allow us to study the big data of the past in a new fashion.

The application of digital technologies to historical newspapers have changed the research landscape historians were used to. An Eldorado? Despite undeniable advantages, the new digital affordance of historical newspapers also transforms research practices and confronts historians with new challenges. Drawing on a growing community of practices, the impresso project invited scholars experienced with digitised newspaper collections with the aim of encouraging a discussion on heuristics, source criticism and interpretation of digitized newspapers.

Dr Sara Afonso Ferreira presented to the students the Court of Justice of the European Union and the collection of works of art which it preserves and which are representative of the Member States and of Europe’s multicultural diversity. Curia's artistic heritage has evolved in line with the stages of European integration and the history of the institution itself, and embodies nowadays the European identity.

Dr Jacopo Cellini's talk aimed at familiarising the students with the history of the EUI - which was founded in 1972 with the mission to “foster the advancement of learning in fields which are of particular interest for the development of Europe”. he HAEU opened to the public in 1986: they hold institutional and non-institutional archives on European integration (more than 270 fonds, multilingual and multimedia).
